HOUSE OF ROBERTS BLOG
HEY MOM,
It's good to wait...
Who wrote that ^ line?… Surely not me! Ha! I hate to wait…I am a mover and a shaker in all things in life, tending to move at clip speed always. I want to get to where I am going with no delays and start enjoying the final destination I arrive at ASAP. I don’t linger or procrastinate on anything I want to make happen, it’s like why wait till tomorrow to make the call or ask the questions when you can do it today? A common phrase out of my mouth in life is a cheerful, encouraging “LET’S GO” with !!! and a dance emoji! I want to make things happen today and not have to wait till tomorrow. Is anyone else like me in this?
I love this about me, I really do! This drive has led me to some cool places, spaces, and people! I have done and accomplished A LOT with this and I really do believe this is a part of the way the Lord made me to be! That being said, it also SUCKS ha! If you are alive you know that life is FULL of waiting, if you have read your bible you can clearly see that it is FULL of waiting. Being in times or places of waiting is inevitable in life. It’s even harder these days because of how “instant” life has become! We can have so many things right now at just a click of a button! This is not real life and is a false reality to how the most important and meaningful things in life actually come to us.
Thank goodness for the help of the Holy Spirit that saves us from ourselves and teaches us a better way than “earthly-minded living.” He has coached me and taught me over the years the goodness and the discipline in waiting. The character and the humility that is built in waiting and most importantly the intimacy with Him that is built in times of waiting. God is a God of the process, He is never trying to just get you to a destination overnight (even though He could). He is always using time and circumstances to form more of Christ on the inside of us! God is always planting so much vision in our hearts, a fresh idea, a hunger to become more, or a transition into something fresh, and the same God who plants that vision in our hearts is the same God who knows exactly the timing it needs to unfold and all the He wants to build in us along the way.
It takes faith to wait. It’s easy to believe God when we have all we want but when God puts something in our hearts and we have to wait for it…We have to contend for it…We have to stick close to Him to discern it…when no one else gets it but God…Yet we still stand up and hold our ground for it…Well, that’s the grounds where DEEP and RICH faith is created. You can’t get that faith any other way than in the waiting. When we think of waiting it can feel at times like a boring or passive phase, like riding out time till we get to where we are going. However WAITING UPON THE LORD is incredibly intentional, purposeful, it’s a posture of inclining, clinging, dependency, and I believe what we do in the waiting determines how long we stay in the waiting.
One of Mike and I’s favorite verses for fifteen years now is Lamentations 3:23-26
“Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.
24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance;
therefore, I will hope in him!”
25 The Lord is good to those who depend on him,
to those who search for him.
26 So it is good to wait quietly
for salvation from the Lord.
A line in my heart always is “Gabby it is good to wait upon the Lord” and I truly have found it is. I know God deeper and wider in His nature and character because of times of waiting and contending for His promises to come to pass. I know Him greater for waiting upon Him for timing and strategy on things rather than leaning on my own understanding! So I say to you today “It’s a good thing to wait upon the Lord” Whatever you are and have been believing God for keep seeking him, keep fixing your eyes on Jesus, keep asking for His strategy. He is faithful and He will do what He has promised. And lastly, enjoy the process there really is so much joy and fulfillment in the waiting! I am praying and believing with you this week for all God is doing in and through your life! He is so intimately involved and knows exactly what He is doing!! You got this!
