So when Mike and I started making adjustments with our pace and how we were structuring our family time I remember it was an incredibly hard adjustment for a moment. All of a sudden we were with each other more than we were used to and although we KNEW this was what God was wanting for us it was still a bit overstimulating at first. It required the Lord’s grace and the Holy Spirit’s voice coaching us the whole way. He would speak to my heart and say things like—Take a deep breath, the irritation will pass soon, or put down your phone, you have to build the muscle of focus to be a truly present parent and your phone is KILLING that. Another time He said stop multitasking when you are with your kids, teach them how to be fully present in one moment at a time. You would think that it would feel like He (The Holy Spirit) was nagging me but honestly, every time He brought my eye to a new adjustment that had to happen, it brought me so much peace because I knew he was WITH me TEACHING me how to do it. 

John 14:26 says “ But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you EVERYTHING and remind you of everything I have told you.”

The Holy Spirit was sent to us to be our teacher in EVERYTHING and He truly wants and is able to do so—we just have to let Him! He has reminded me often in motherhood that I can’t do it without Him and when I try to do it on my own I fail, tire out, and have no grace for the role. Motherhood REQUIRES Him. He wants to shape us into the best wives and moms for our family…not perfect but authentic. He wants to show us how to pray for our husbands and kids, how to bring proper correction, and how to unlock their gifts. He wants to give us the grace and breathe for the role. He wants to train our eyes to see what we need to see. He wants to continue to heal our wounds so that we don’t transfer them…It REQUIRES HIM! 

You’re right, you won’t be able to make these adjustments to your pace, values, and family dynamic on your own—you will tire out, you will give up, it will be too hard…BUT…WITH God you can DO ALL THINGS and if HE is for you, who or what can be against you?! 

Know this, IT WILL be hard for a moment, IT WILL take sacrifice, IT WILL take commitment, IT WILL take partnership with your spouse or accountability with a trusted friend but let me encourage you with this—IT IS WORTH IT!

My prayer is that we would give the Holy Spirit permission, space, and the place to correct and teach us a better way in our homes. That when He says stop, we stop, when He says go, we go! That we would hear his voice coaching us and we would obey right away. I believe if we did this as Moms and Dads there is no stopping what God would do in and through our families!
