As Michael and I have gone on this journey with God about family, we have learned it is undeniable that family, since the beginning of creation, was the way God wanted to build on the earth. The family was given authority and power to reign with God over creation. Think about it…God could have given his creation to be ruled over by a non-profit, or a church, or a corporation but NO he gave it to a family. God built and rebuilt nations through families, made covenants with families, created priesthoods through families, and gave HIS one and only son to be nurtured and protected by a family. It’s wild because now when I read my bible I can’t help but see FAMILY everywhere in it. Even in the genealogies, I used to blaze past but now I look at them and see God putting an emphasis on the way He builds generationally through the pipeline of family. See your family is not random to God, your family is a tool in the hand of God that He wants to use to build something in the earth. It’s a weighty responsibility, one that should compel us and draw us closer to the Holy Spirit to figure out what He has for us.

As wives and moms, I believe God has given us a very sensitive and discerning voice in our family’s lives. We have a way of seeing things in our homes beyond what the natural eye can see; sensing that something has to change, or something has to grow. We can see things in our kids, gift mixes, talents, personality traits, and where that could potentially lead them in life. This is not some “cute sensing” we have that should be taken lightly or forgotten about quickly. This is God’s voice in our lives trying to help lead and direct us in our homes, helping us to see where we need to pray, encourage, correct, and equip them. 

There have been so many times in motherhood where time stands still in a seemingly simple moment but where I hear the Holy Spirit say “Look, I’ve gifted them in that...that’s not random, that’s me in them and I want to show you how to cultivate it in them.” Or “Gabby, look she is struggling in that, give your attention to that, I’ll help you.” See God is always speaking to us as parents trying to be a part and at the center of leading our homes. Truly He is trying to teach us how to do our families well. I have found that daily as I give space and leadership to his voice- He speaks and every time He coaches and leads me and I obey, the VOLUME of His voice increases in my life. 

He wants to build through our homes DEEPLY. He wants to create on the earth and work with us instead of despite us! He wants to show us our mission and where to focus more than He wants us to get our cues from the next global trend or influencer account. Your family is not random, and it doesn’t matter how it started GOD wants to use it for HIS GLORY! 

My prayer this week is that we would invite the Holy Spirit into our homes afresh, and allow him to bring focus and definition to our purpose in our families. Helping us as moms have an ear to HEAR, an eye to SEE, and a heart to PERCIEVE, what the Spirit of God is doing in your homes and that we would LISTEN and OBEY His voice!
