HEY DAD,
Choose the Gap over
the Platform...
I came across this verse, and I thought about you Dad. It’s found in Ezekiel 22:30, “I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.” I know kind of an intense verse, but track with me here. First, do you see what God is doing? He is looking for people who He can use to rebuild that which has been broken down. Second, He is looking for people who see the holes and gaps in the walls and don’t mind stepping into them so that they can be rebuilt. Third, and what is really unfortunate, He couldn’t find anyone to do it.
Dad, God wants you to do some significant things on this earth. Could God do it himself? Of course He could, He’s God! If He couldn’t then He wouldn’t be God, but God chooses to use people to accomplish His will on the earth. That means He has chosen you to rebuild that which is broken down in your life, in your family, and in your culture.
Now the question you have to ask yourself is, “Where do you see gaps in the walls?” Do you see gaps in your family? Do you see gaps in your church? Do you see gaps in your school system, neighborhood, or community? Gaps can be discovered in different ways. A gap can be discovered by a statistic, for example, there is a statistic that says the average age for a boy to encounter porn for the first time is 9 years old…That’s a gap. A gap can be brought to your attention by someone else like your Pastor announcing that the Youth Group needs more help during their Wednesday night service…That’s a gap.
The next question is, “When you become aware of a gap, how do you know if it is something you are supposed to help with?” When you become aware of a gap, if it evokes some kind of emotion out of you, that’s a good indicator that the Holy Spirit is tapping you in to help fill that gap. That means, if you get happy, sad, and/or mad about it, then I think you should do something about it.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of gaps in our culture and not enough gap-fillers. Could it be, that more people are looking for platforms to succeed in rather than gaps to fill? What a sad verse to read in Ezekiel that God could find no one. Let that not be said of us during our time on the earth Dad! Let it be said, that God found men who weren’t perfect, who weren’t fully qualified, but who were men of integrity and faith and who were willing to step in and fill the gap. I think you are a gap-filler dad, and when you step into that gap you are going to experience a new level of purpose in your life. You are going to feel a new intimacy with God because this gap-filling life requires a deeper level of dependency on God.
Is it your job to do it all? No. God is not looking for someone to handle the whole thing on their own. God is looking for partners. Willing men, who He can do great things through. Don’t feel the pressure to make it all happen on your own; just shake off the apathy and feel the weight of the call to fill that gap. We need you to fill that gap, and I know you can do it!
